Biscayne Landing Charter High School

Biscayne
Landing will include an elementary school as well
as a highly-desirable charter high school for grades
9-12. It will be North Miami's first charter high
school. It will have the capacity to hold 1,560 students.
The
$21 million state-of-the-art high school will contain
a performing arts center and advanced science labs.
It will have an educational curriculum that includes
an extensive marine biology program. Close by will
be an Olympic-sized sports complex and a state-of-the-art
library. The high school will be developed in association
with Florida International University (FIU) which
abuts the Biscayne Landing community.
As
a charter high school, the Biscayne Landing school
will be a public facility. There will be no fee to
attend. Students will earn their diploma, just as
they would in a traditional public school. In addition
to the emphasis placed on marine biology, students
will receive a typical broad-based high school education.
Biscayne
Landing's school will operate under a charter granted
by the North Miami school district. Florida International
University will assist with the development of the
charter. The charter will establish the guidelines
and standards for the Biscayne Landing school. The
school will be held accountable in accordance with
local and state guidelines regarding attendance, state
proficiency testing, grades, discipline, etc.
As
a charter school, Biscayne Landing high school will
likely have smaller class sizes than most public high
schools, flexible scheduling, a secure environment
and an emphasis on individualized instruction.
